POWER CUT OFF AT OTIRA
GREY MOUTH, February 15
on e of the .severest electrical storms ever experienced in Grey mouth commenced at 4.45 p.m. yesterday, and continued until the early hours ot this i morning. ! Thunder accompanied by forked l'ghtI ninig was particularly, severe, whilst i heavy rain with wind at times at gale force caused streams throughout the district to. become Hooded. .Lightning caused slight interruptions in the pow*r lines, residents, in the Dobson district being without light for. two hours before repairs wore effected. The .rain in the. country districts .has been particularly lie il vy, especially on th e Qtira lme. Owing to a blockage in a creek between Jackson* and Ait-kens the railway lino was covered with gravel and a' stmO bridge was endangered. The Christchurch goods tram which was duo at Greyniouth at 4 a.m., arrived six hours l^te. Owing to slips on a tiuno conveying water to the powerhouse at Oti.ra the power was cut oif, resulting in traffic through the tunnel being at a standstill. r.Repairs .have, noiv ,heen. effected.
