HOARDED MONEY
DISCOVERED 1 UNDER BED. The story of a man of 82, who kept £175 in goiu .and notes under Ills bed a.nd gave liis housekeeper 13s Gd a week for domestic expenses, was told at the Police Court at Wincanton, Somerset, recently. Annie Elizabeth Lemon, the housekeeper, was accused of stealing £lsl from her employer, James Burt, of Charlton Horebhorne, over a period of years. Mr Burt said that he put 100 sovereigns and £75 in notes in a box five years no-o. and he never looked at it until lately, when there was only about £2O left. The housekeeper, who was in tears, said that Mr Burt gave her only 13s Gd a week, which was his pension, on which to keep house. She had to take tfhe mornely /from time to time to pay bills. The chairman of the bench told Mi Burt that lie had learned his lesson, and advised him to put what uas left in the hank. In the circumstances Lemon would ho hound over for two years. M r Burt said he did not think he was keeping 'the woman short of money, and added that he would take her hack. They loft che. court together.
