SENSATION IN RESTAURANT

Eight hundred diners iu a .restaurant on Broadway, New York, lately, had the thrill of their l«ve s when a ,’one gunman arranged a hold-up. Th e pay-roll, amounting to £6OO, stood on the ca,;hicvs d c sk. The baud,l presented a revolver at the cashier, Miss Garvey, crying, “Hand <n,r the •rioi'gb." A°n w. have to take it over my dead body.” Ihe man fired and miosed, hut he seized the money and made lor the dooi. igome customers rushed for l!.ie ex lt s, others got under th e while the more /courageous hurled plates, cups, sugar bow,ls and salt cellars at th 2 intruder. The bandit was about to dive through th r , door when an employee known as “Shorty” took a flying leap and brought down the gunman with a tackle. The gunman shot “Shorty’ in the arm, but he hung on grimly, and the man was arrested. “Shorty” remarked bashfully afterwards, “I don't like those tough guys. They make, me dick.”
