RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY.
The weather which, early yesterday morning gave promise of a fine day tunned out very unfavourable as the day wore on for the second day of the bowling tournament. 'The , morning round was played out with only one short interruption by a shower, but after ruioon a strong north-westerly ga-’e came on bringing with it heavy showers. A'start was made at 12.30 p.m. with the fifth round of the rinks, and this was finished under very unpleasant conditions of a. raging gale and heavy drizzle, with occasional sharper showers. The condition, of the green, with water and heavy gale spoilt all play, and the results, in most eases, were a gamble, good play being, out of the question, while the conditions were decidedly cool. A welcome hot cup of tea .at 3 p.m. was, supplied and other heavier rain set in. At the Mental green it was decided to shorten round six to 16 heads., and this was started under very damp conditions. After three-quart ere of an hour 'a heavy squall drove the players into the pavilion l , and though all hope wasnot . at first given up, at 5.30 p.m. at mutual arrangement among the slcipy resulted in the round being declared finished, leaving, Page with' six wins as one of the leaders and Mercer, Breeze, Leach and G. Wilson, each with four wins to decide oi, the second team to enter to the finals.
On the Hokitika green the sixth round had only advanced to three or four heads when the heavy rain orevented play for the rest of the day, the green being almost a sheet of water. RINKS.
