"--Baron von Martens,- a noted figure in pre-war society, committed suicide in a pporhouse to which lie'and bis wife, were driven by destitution. The Baron during tho Avar inherited a fortune of £12,000,000 which was all dissipated, during the war and subsequent upon the inflation and crash in the value of securities.
