OBITUARY

Sill WILLIAM ROBERTSON. (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, Feb. 12. The death is announced of FeidMarshall Sir William Robertson. AIRS BEATRICE POOL. The death took place at Westland Hospital this morning of Mrs Beatrice Pool, of Dillmanstown. She has been an inmate of the * hospital for some weeks. Deceased was a native of Dillmanstown, and leaves a husband and. family of. two sons (John and George) and two daughters (Mrs W. Holley and Airs M. Rocliford, also two sisters (All’s Neville and All’s George, both of Kumara, The funeral takes place at Kumara cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.

AIR. H. A. KENT. The death took place at Christchurch on Friday of. Air. H. A. Kent, .. a prominent figure in the printing world of New Zealand. He retired last year after 56 years of service with the Christchurch Press Coy. Born at Greenwich, England, he was 81 years of age. With his mother he arrived in New Zealand in 1862 at the time of the gold' rushes to Central Otago —the Shotover, the Dunstan, and the Queenstown rushes. Afer further schooling young Kent was apprenticed to the printing business of Messrs Shaw, Arnott and Cot, Dunedin, with whom he remained two years, the firm transferring their business to Hokitika on the breaking, out of the rush to the West Coast. After his arrival and after following various occupations lie re-apprenticed himself to Air J. P. Klein, Hokitika, the proprietor of the “AVest Coast Times” and the “Evening Star,” who agreed to allow him for the two years served at the trade in Dunedin. On completing his apprenticeship, Mr Kent was appointed printer of the “Evening Star” and afterwards of the “West Coast Times.” Dull times on the AA’est, Coast decided Mr Kent to try his fortune in Canterbury, and on April 19, 1873, he applied for and was- given employment on “The Press,” Christchurch which was continued till last June. Air Kent was twice married, his second wife, who predeceased him, being Airs Beatty, mother of the well-known, actresse", Alisses Aland and Atav Boattv. He- is survived by two daughters, Mrs <l. A. AVard, of Berry Street, St. Albans, and Airs J. R. Varley, of Prebbleton.
