A House vote on legislation to boost the tariff rates against the countries with depreciated currencies was ensured to-day when one hundred and forty-five members signed • the discharge >'etition. The petition was hied by Representative Schafer (Republican, Wisconsin) and was signed epeedly after this week’s Republican Conference which went on record in favour of a plan that a vote should be taken on wlie-

tlier the Ways and Means Committee shall be discharged from further consideration of the Crowther Bill, which would increase, the duties automatically in a ratio determined by the amount of the depreciation. It is similar to the Hill Bill, on which the Ways and Means Sub-Committee has been holding hearings.
