AUCKLAND, January 24

Excitement was c au sed during the racing held ‘by th e Auckland Outboard facing Club” on the Panmure Basin on Saturday when the driver oi a boat was Hung from ihi s craft... which continued at a,' high speed until striking *3ome rocks.. Another exciting incident was the hurdling of a, boat by another on- a turn in th e course. No. one was injured.

. The first thrill wa 6 given when Air C. <K. Burgess, driving SeahoppOr, was thrown; from his craft when it struck some troubled water on a turn. The boat roared, on at a .speed of about 25 mike an hour and piled up on the rock? at the entrance to the basin, .where it was holed and stranded. Jn the last race of the day the spec* tutors were given another thrjjl, and the drivers involved were .fortunate that they were not injured, ..a* •Hell’s Bells hurdled Miss Clevedon at speed. Silver Slipper, Hell’s Bells and Mns Clevedon were making a close contest ?, f the event, and in the. last lap they raced for .the first turn with scarcely a •l>oat> length separating- them. Clevedon cornered first, but staggered, recovered, then rode on her .side, throwing clear her driver, Mr F. AI. Roberts. . Silver Slipper passed euccCsSftjf,‘y, but Hell’s Bel] wiis directly behind op the turn, and could..not avoid, the,, other craft,, which it hurdled, as it .floated broadside on to th e couree. l’Jie, driver of Hell’s Bells, Mr H. J. Hoptvood, was thrown- int o the water. Bath boat? were damaged, but stayed afloat.
