LIFE SAVING
CLUB FORMED' AT HOKITIKA
TO LESSEN RISKS OF SURF BATHING.
Steps to minimise the risk of drowning on the Hokitika beach were taken at a meeting held hist evening to consider the advisability of forming a life-saving club. The meeting which was convened by Afr R,. Lynn, was attended bv about fifteen enthusiasts, the chair, being occupier by Air Lynn.
The meeting revolved into a:i informal discussion, .in which much useful aclvieei was given by Mr R.. L. Hern, who outlined the duties of a surf team, and who offered to assist in any way
possible. It was finally decided to form a club to 'be called the Hokitika Surf Club, of which the election of officers was held ove-‘ to a meeting to be held ■next Wednesday when a large attendance is assured.
It was decided to take steps to obtain locally a reel, and to make an appeal for financial assistance, -this matter being left in the hands of Air W. H. Stopforth and the chairman. In this connection Air Stopforth offered to donate the sum of £l. It was also decided that a membership fee be charged as follows : —Men— Senior.? 2s 6d, intermediate 2s, juniors Is, Indies Is.
