SYDNEY, January 24

Two miners at the Balmain colliery were critically injured by an explosion in -a- gas pocket. David Kerr and Henry Williams were boring rock with a hand drill when, presumably, a. spark from the hammer ignited the gas.

'‘Kerr, despite frightful burns, dragged. himself some distance to telephone the engineer at the. surface ’three thousand feet above. A cage descended, and the men were taken to the hospital but there is little hope for • their, recovery.-
