N.Z. EMBARGO

AN AUSTRALIAN FRUIT

Australian Press Association.)

SYDNEY, January 17

A citrus growers’ convention at Gosford discussed the New Zealand embargo on Australian fruit. F. Metiers, chairman of the Citrus Council of Australia declared that the New Zealand embargo constituted the most serious setback citrus growers had suffered in recent years. It would mean that three hundred thousand bushels of citrus fruits would have to be diverted to local markets, which were usually glutted. The Convention passed a resolution directing the Prime Minister’s attention to the seriousness of the position and urging immediate action with a view to the lifting of the embargo.
