The New Zealand tennis championships were continued in line weather, marred by strong northerly winds. The matches postponed from yesterday, through rain, were continued tnis morning. 'The only surprise was Roussell’s defeat of Robertson, a seeded player, in a base line game in which the winner was infinitely more accurate, handling the wind better, and occasionally winnings .volleys at the net.

After yesterday’s rain, which caused a postponement in the New Zealand Tennis soon after midday, the weather to-day broke fine, hut with a strong northerly wind. This however, died down by two o’clock, and the conditions were then ideal. In tire men’s singles, R. McL. Ferkfns only surrendered to C. Aligns, the champion, at 13/11 in the fourth set, after having points for a four-two lead and several set points. Aligns won on his 'superior condition, and because Fork ills could not win on openings that he had created, by excellent volleying.

The surprise of the day was the defeat cf Mrs W. J. Me'iody by Miss Rutherford, in a long ’oase lino, duel, in which the latte>' was down 2 —5 in the third sol-.

A 1 brilUuat performance was put up by the veteran, Alec. "Wallace, and the left-hander, George Pearce, a scratch pair, to take the France Brothers to 7/5 ip the fifth set, failing light being all Against Wallace.
