catches at whangaroa. EXCITEMENT IN SMALL BOAT. WHANGAROA, January 14. Fishing at Whangaroa this week Mr S. Ellis caught two swordfish weighing 2091 b. and 2291 b. respectively. Both were landed on the. sam 3 day. They were well-conditioned fish and were very game fighters. Mr Elks also landed .two makos. ,Mr 'R. B. Watson caught a swordfish weighing 2331 b. aud one mako. The former was the second swordfish Mr Watson has landed recently. Extreme difficulty wag caused hv the trace fouling its tail. The fish .fought splendidly. In addition to t-hes© catches, Air E. Beaver, of the Matauri camp, landed a black marlin weighing 4001 b.. a swordfish of 2851 b. ,anci a mako of 3021 b. Unfortunately, the catching of the black marl ini was unofficial, as it was landed on a. hapulca line whde Mr Beaver and a friend were fishing from a 14ft punt. The big fish towed the *mall craft some distance and at fme» it was in rather perilous situations. However, the fish was fijnally secured.
