WILDING SHIELD

WELLINGTON LEAD CANTERBURY. (Per Press Association — Copyright ) WELLINGTON, January 16. The Wilding Shield and Nunneley Casket competitions for inter-pfovin-cial tennis were played at Wellington to-day in easily the hottest day this season, and there was a complete absence of wind. In the Shield contest for men, 'Wellington are leading Canterbury by five rubbers to one, and in the Casket competition for ladies, Canterbury ’ and Wellington are equal with three rubbers all. Following are the results: —

WILDING SHIELD. nj i Singles.—DC G. France (Wellington) beat C. Angas (Canterbury) 6-3, 6- ; C. E. Malfroy (W ellington) beat H. A. Barnett (Canterbury) 6-2, 6-2; N. R. C. Wilson (Wellington) beat T. Rhodes Williams (Canterbury) 4-6, 7- 6-4; R. McL. Ferkins (Wellington) beat W. R. Robinson (Canterbury) 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Doubles.—France and Malfroy (Wellington) beat Efhodes Williams and Robinson (Canterbury) 6-3, 6-3; Barnet and Angas (Canterbury) beat Wilson -and Ferkins (Wellington) 6-3, 7-5.

NUNNELEY CASKET. Singles.—'Miss Nicholls (Canterbury) boat Miss D. Howe (Wellington) 6-4, 8-0; Mrs H. M. Dykes (Wellington) beat Miss M. Wake (Canterbury) 6-1, 6-3; Mrs D. G.
