Huddart-Parker’s new inter-colonial mo tor ship, the Wanganella, arrived at 2.10 a.m. 'after her first trip from Sydney. The average speed was,. 16 knots, 17 being exceeded at times. When the engines arc' properly, run, in it is expected that slie ~wilTf be' capable of a speed of 18 k^.ots.;' : - P.eivlect weather prevailed throng,houjj.4^,,, trip, except for fog at thg entrance. to Wellington harbour. .Otherwise the ship would have arrived about 9.J0 p.m. ycsteiday. Excellent woather was also exporieiiced on her record maiden trip from Belfast to Sydney. The ship has hot yet tested heavy weather, but officers speak highly of her sea-going qualities. Tlie passengers included a number of Australians making the round voyage, including an excursion to Mi.fold Sound. The Wanganella is leaving today and returning on Friday.
it ■is understood that a. request has: been made to the captain of the Wanganella to bring-the vessel in as close as possible and to reduce her speed while opposite Hokitika-, on the vessel’s way to Milfo-rd Sound. The Wanganella leaves Wellington to-day.
