CANADA PROTESTS IMPORTATIONS OF N.Z. BUTTER. (United Press Association— By Ffectrio Telegraph—Copyright; " f 'j! OTTAWA, January 13. Protests against the importation of a quarter of a million pounds of butter from New Zealand have been received at the office of the Dominion minister of Agriculture.
These protests, coming from an undisclosed source, have been forwarded by the executive of the United Farmers of Alberta Province, without comment. In the absence of the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Weir, who is ill, no statem e nt has been given, by the Department. t Statistics covering the butter situation in. Canada indicate that the quantity in storage on January Ist last wag less by 4,279,000 pounds than •on January 1 a yea r ago. If the butter that is stored in bond is included, the holdings w e re approximately 3,833,000 pounds less. The actual production of butter, in Canada has been lower every month from July until December last than in the same months of the previous y e .ar, but this decrease was lessening gi’adual.lv. However, the December figure® indicate that the production slumped again. Canadian butter consumption has also decreased.
