A 12 voar-old hoy, Colin Campbell, had a narrow escape from drowning while bathing at Waipu Gove. He was holiday-making with relatives and while bathing with other children in shallow water slipped into deep water. Being unable to swim, he was quickly in difficulties.

Mrs Thornton, of Whangarei, and Mrs Campbell waded into the water up to their necks find held tlie boy until the arrival of Mr Campbell. When brought to the beach the lad was unconscious. He was given artificial respiration. a.nd completely recovered.

CHILD’S PALL FROM TREE

WHANGAREI, January 5

As the result of a fall from a tree Edward Dyer, aged six years, son of Mr E, Dyer, Whangarei received abrasions to his chest, and dislocated the second finger of his left band as the result of falling 20 feet from a poliutukawa tree. He was taken to the Hospital, where his condition is reported to be satisfactory.

CAR ACCIDENT.

GISBORNE, January 5

As a result of the bursting of a tyre, ;1 car plunged 25ft down a hank early this morning. Mr T. Cameron arid Mr E, V. Wise were injured. Mr Cameron has a broken leg and Mr Wise an injury to a hand. Both were admitted to the hospital. Three other persons received minor injuries.
