DROWNING RESCUE

BY A ONE-LEGGED SWIMMER. .SYDNEY, December 23. An elderly woman was rescued from drowning at the Bail light .pool, Manly, yesterday, by Albert Barry, a Crown Prosecutor and former leading swimmer, who lest a leg at the Great War. Residents heard calls for help, at 6.30 a.in. and Barry hastened from his home in Warren Court, which adjoins the pool. The woman had been swept out- about .40 yards, but Barry, who is a strong swimmer, threw away his .crutches and soon had her ashore. The woman was not seriously affected and, after a short rest, left for her home.
