A remarkable recovery to health after suffering a broken back.has been the good fortune'of Mr R, L. Hughes, of Tiratu, near Dannevirke, who. met with an accident while hunting about seven months ago. A farmer with an leg, Mr Edwin George Tindall, aged 55, received painful injuries in an accident on his farm near Ma’takana. . - A •

In company with a neighbour, Mr Tindall was taking the milk cans back to the farm on a sledge when suddenly the horse shied and broke into a gallop. The sledge was capsized and Mr Tindall was thrown heavily, receiving a bad fracture of. the thigh above the artificial leg. . 1 - " ' A St. John ambulance was summoned from Auckland and' t;he injured man was admitted, to the Auckland Hospital shortly after 5; p.m. His condition last evening was fairly serious.

MOTOR CAR STRIKES POLE.

BLENHEIM, January 4.

As the result of a break down in the steering gear, a motor car driven by Douglas Isaac Charles Bryan, aged 55, of Queen Street, Westport; who was accompanied by. his -wbe, < and three children, crashed, out of control, into a concrete power pole in, Grave Road and was hopelessly wrecked: The occupant had a marvellous escape from serious injury, as the impact shattered the post in two places. The victim sustained cuts and bruises and were admitted to the hospital.
