IMMIGRATION FROM DOMINION
EXCESS OVER ARRIVALS. WELLINGTON, December 29. The title <of immigration which so recently as 1923 used to give the Dominion an oddtion to its permanent : population of over 15,000 annually, has definitely set the other way. External migration figures for the eleven months ended with last November show that immigrants intending permanent residence numbered 1408, but
the permanent residents departing permanently for overseas destinations totalled 2788, an excess over permanent. arrivals of 1380. The destinations of those permanently leaving were: Australia 878, British Isles 1697, other British countries 92, United States 27. and other foreign countries 91, It lias been customary for tourist figures to show enormous disparities compared with those for former years, but tlio Government Statisician considers tliat his movement, judging bv the November figures are on ia par with those for November, 1931, while the cumulative totals for the eleven months show a decrease of only 3.5 per cent on those of the previous year. Tourist business, however, is of comparatively small proportions, as the total number arriving in the eleven months was 4159.
