DEATH FROM THIRST
PROSPECTOR CHASES MIRAGE.
(Australian Press Association; '(Received Dec. 30th. at 10.26 a.m.) PERTH, December 29. After crawling across parched ground to a steep creek bank only to topple thirst-crazed into a dry rocky bed below, William McLeod, aged sixtythree, a prospector, died within five hundred yards of a full well in the country behind Onslow. The graphic story of McLeod’s death, following a waterless trek of thirtyeight miles, during which his tracks were indicated by frantic bursts in pursuit of a mirage, is contained in a report from Constable Oeagh of Onslow. 4
