(WHELAN’S UNENVIABLE PLIGHT,
(Australian Press A tsociation.) (Received this day at 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, 'December 30. The plight of Whelan is serious, according to messages received by the Defence Department from Major Brearley of West Australia Airways. The department has sent two Wapiti machines from Point Cook to drop supplies to Whelan. Major Brearley s ays that the only hope of saving Whelan is to keep on supplying water by air until the machines are assisted by a strong wind so that they can approach th e edge of th e Jake and lift Whelan off.
AFRICAN AIR ROUTE. RUGBY, December 28. Sir Eric Ceddes, chairman of Imperial Airways, left London yesterday on a Hying visit to stations on the Lon-doii-Cape Town air route. lie will visit Rome en route to discuss with the Italian authorities questions arising out of the operations of international air services.
