United approval of the prairie cattle hides industry is greeting the proposal to . trade a hundred thousand dairy cattle for Soviet oil and coal. Under the plan, Moscow _ gives the syndicate bonds at 7 per cent. The Canadian Government ig being asked to underwrite these up to 60 per cent.,, permitting tha syndicate to tspend a million dollars for cattle. On arrival of the oil and coal, the Government will be reimbursed. The plan is stated only to be awaiting Ottawa’s approval.
BONE WITHOUT HIS KNOWLEDGE PREMIER AND TRADE PACT. MONTREAL, December 29 Mr Bennett denied all knowledge of the projected barter agreement between Canada and Russia, when he passed through Montreal to-day on route to Ottawa. “J have read a report that plans are under way for barter agreement between Canada and Russijf,” bo said. “If that is so, then it has been .projected without my knowledge.” When Mr Bennett’s attention was drawn to the criticism of such a proposal in the English press, he retorted that Canada damages herself abroad by cabling Else reports and information that aie entirely unfounded. “That is .the trouble with this country.
