ANGLER’S LUCK
FISH ESCAPES WITH ROD.
TE AROHA, December 27
While fishing on Lake Rotorua, Mr H. Hinder, manager of the Te Aroha branch of the Bank of Australasia, had a novel if unfortunate experience. With several friends Mr Hinder bad been engaged .most of the morning fishing with indifferent luck and was about to depart. Releasing his rod, Mr Hinder laid it for a moment against tlie side of the boat while he gathered bis gear together. No sooner had be dene tnis when the fly, which was hanging in the water, was seized by a. large fish, which made off at a great rate. The rod was jerked overboard end swiftly followed the fish across the Jake.
Although followed for a distance by the boat, tlie fish and rod outpaced all pursuit and the chase had to bo abandoned. For some time after the fish could bo seen breaking water, but at length it disappeared.
-dr Hinder’s rod was a very valuable one of the split cane variety and was equipped with a kingfisher line.
