SYDNEY MURDERS

CLUE SECURED BY DETECTIVES. SYDNEY, December 20. An important development in the investigations into the Sydney park murders occurred to-day, when, in. a special announcement, the Commissioner of Police (ijfr Childs) said that a new fan belt of a.'motor-tiar was the first clue secured by . the 'detectives. Stating that lie had recommended to the Government that a reward of £250 be offered for information, in the case of the murder of May Miller, in Queen’s Park, additional to the reward if a similar amount in regard to the murder of Bessie O’Connor at National P.qrk, -Mr Childs made an urgent appeal for information concerning the supply of a fan belt to the driver of a car between Tom Ugly’s Point and Centennial Park between midnight and 4 a.m. last Wednesday. At the Criminal Investigation Branch to-day there was great activity. The Essex car stolen from Cook Road, Centennial Park, last Tuesday night, and in which the detectives declare they have good reason for believing Bessie O’Connor was driven toNational Park, was minutely examin-. ed for possible clues affecting its driving or handling. The owner yesterday detected that the fan belt had been renewed since he last drove the car.

All day yesterday and last night the deteeives made a round of all garage*, in the Centennial Park, Rand wick, Bondi and Waverley districts, and later visited nearly every garage on the route between Randwick, Centennial Park and Tom Ugly’s Point. .The officers did not find the man they wanted; hence the Commissioner’s' appeal to him to communicate with the department. ,
