NEW AGREEMENTS
FOR SAWMILLING INDUSTRY
(per Press Association - - l opyr.yht i AUCKLAND, December 23. A clispi:te between the Auckland sa\vmTilers and workers has' readied a satisfactory conclusion and a fall agreement has been made. The provisions of the agreement which affects all that part of Auckland province north of I’apakura provide for a maximum rate of pay of Is 8d an hour, and a minimum for adults of Is Cd an hour. The old award provided for a minimum wage of 15s a day, or approximately Is &d an hour, but when the award lapsed six monti a ago the employers paid wages of Is 7d an hour, rising in halfpenny amounts according to grade. The ne.i minimum rate of Is Cd an hour is thus Id an hour less than the'rate paid during the last six months and 3d l.ss than that paid under the old award. The employers have agreed, how.vcr, not to intrduce the new scale for s.x months-
The wages of watchmen, either day or night, have been fixd at Is an hour, which is considerably below the, rate paid under the old award. The [eim of the agreement is two yars, but the rates of wages may be reviewed, if notice is given by either side.-
