THE HOLIDAYS

The rain on Saturday morning cleared somewhat as the day wore on a>nd riie afternoon and evening were fine except for a couple of light showers about 9 p.m. There was a large crowd in the streets from the early after'•’ooll and at night Revel! Street and adjoining streets were thronged with a happy crowd. Tile business people appeared to be kept busy throughoutthe day and most of the shops, osncdiallv three dealing with fancy goods and light? refreshments were crowded to a late hour. Though there was a light hivi'ted crowd abroad there was an absence of any untoward happenings.

At midnight the MunicTia] Rand began making their annual tour of the town playing carols and their '(•‘.ivitcs continued throughout the night and did not conclude tjll about 11 a.m.. the- Hospital and Mental Hospital being included hi their 'rounds. Christmas Day was gloriously tine, a real summer day. The churches were well -tilled for the special .services.

At night there was a decided change in the weaiher conditions, a north vester beginning to blow, and shortly liter midnight heavy rain set in which continued until nearly noon when it eased somewhat, but there wore diowers during the afternoon. As a .’■esult. of the downpour the first day •if the Westland Racing 'Club’s meeting was postponed, while the Boxing tourney in the swimming baths was cancelled. The weather cleared early on Tugs'ay ami yeis'o lay was'gloriously fine .vhon the Ri. dig Club opened their midsummer meeting. The weather continues fine to-day when the second .lay’s races took place.
