CEREMONY. IN LONDON

COMPANY" OF MASTER 'MARINERS

LONDON, November 3. The Prince of Wales, Master of the Master Mariners, yesterday received at the hands of the Lord Mayor the “Letters Patent under Mayoralty Seal” of the Livery of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. It was the first time in the city’s history that ,a. Prince of Wales had attended a meeting of tho Court of Aldermen, and the first time that .a Prince of Wales had received a grant of Livery as Master of a City Company. - The Court was held in the Long Parlour, and the scene had all the dignity and colour associated with high csremonial in the city. The Prince of Wales, who had been received at the entrance to the -Mansion House by the J.ord Mayor, attended by the city marshal, was escorted to a low dias, where he slit on the right of the Lord Mayor. His Koval Highness wore a long; and wide-sleeved blue robe trimmed with fur llelow the dais, the aldermen intheir scarlet robes occupied gilded chairs, while the. chief officers of the corporation, in black gowns sat around a table at the end oi "Inch renosod the mace and sword. The present occasion was historic in character, because it was. over 200 years since a new company was formed. The Honourable Ccm,>‘i,iv of Master Mariners was in every wav a new company. They were incorporated only six years ago, romcorpnrted two years ago bv a Boy.u Charter, and had now become a city company and also a livery company at one and , the same time. Ue Lon Mayor then presented the Grant o Livery to ,the Prince.
