A large eighty-passenger motor launch, Tuuopai, recently built at Auckland lor Mr M. Steel, of Picton, was totally destroyed by fire while anchored at Toreti last night, while the party were ashore enjoying a moonlight picnic. There was no insurance on the vessel which cost £2000..
ESCAPEE CAPTURED
WRANGARiEI, December 22
After being at liberty for a week, Adi a n Alfred Beebre, who escaped from Whaimavei lock-up where lie was hell on a commitment warrant, was re-en-ptuml Inst night at the public works eamn, Titoki.
A but wherein lie sought concealment was surroumled by the police. In attempting to get away Beebre jumped through a window right into the arm,;; of a constable. Charged this morning with being an incorrigible rogue, accused was sentenced to three months’ hard labour to lie concurrent with fourteen days for default of payment of a previous fine a,nd on the indictment of a breach of his probation order, he was convicted and discharged.
