DEATH FROM WOUNDS.

CALCUTTA, December 20,
Mr John Gilbert Bourne, the Deputy Comnnsioner of Betual district, of the central provinces, lias died as the result of injuries received from a tiger while he was gallantly attempting to rescue an Indian beater who was being mauled. Mr Bourne shot and fatally wounded one tiger, whose mate attacked the beater, then turning on Bourne.
DUKE OF GLOUCESTER
RUGBY, December 20
The Duke of Gloucester, after spending Christmas at Sandringham with the King and Queen, leaves England on 30th December for a shooting trip to the Sudan. The Duke is making the trip during his ordinary leave as a serving army officer, and will be accompanied by Captain Brook, bis comanion on previous expeditions.
BIG CONTINENTAL DEFICITS. ROME, December 20
While M. Boncour, French Premier, is facing a budget deficit of sixty-four millions sterling, ILilys present deficit is 23 J- millions, while it is estimated that her deficit for 1933-34 will be double that amount.
