BEWARE OF SHARKS

BATHERS ALARMED.

(Per Press Association— copyright.)

AUCKLAND. December 19

Two sharks cruising leisurely a short distance from the foreshore at Stanley Bay. on Saturday were unwelcome visitors to the popular bathing beach. They were first seen on the Stanley Point side of the jetty. A little later one of them, eft in length, made its way towards the wharf, near which there were many bathers. including several children.

Fortunately the alarm was given by a woman who noticed tin* shark as it moved toward the pier. Tile swimmers hurriedly left the water, some of them running down the wharf to watch the ugly monster as it swam slowly in the shade of the wharf less than 40 yards from the shore.

The beach was thronged yesterday, although it was noticeable that most of the bathers remained within comfortable distance of the land. 1
