PIE FOR THE KING
AN ANCIENT IRISH CUSTOM. DISCONTINUANCE IS EXPECTED DUBLIN, December 3. Dublin is speculating on the attitude that will he adopted by the new Gov-ernor-General, Mr McDonald Buckley, concerning the Christmas present of “four and twenty woodcocks baked in a pie” that has been sent to the King of England by Irish Viceroys for the past 114 years. Messrs Healv and McNeill observed the custom, the pic, accompanied by Christmas greetings, being delivered to the King by special courier, but it is considered that there is “Buckley’s chance” of a pie being sent this year.
