SMITH LEAVES FOR CAPETOWN. (Doited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this day at 9,25 a.m.) - LONDON, December 15. < Victor Smith loft Croydon at one o’clock this afternoon in ail attempt to reach Capetown under three days. He declared that lie was determined to start, despite head winds, and unfavourable conditions. He is aiming for Oran to-night and hopes to cross the (Sahara in the daytime. Smith is flying the machine in which Butler flew to Australia in 1931. SMITH RETURNS TO CROYDON.

Owing to strong winds, Victor Smith alighted unhurt in a field. The machine was undamaged. Ho returns to, Croydon to start afresh.
