N.Z. TOBACCO REDUCTIONS

WELLINGTON, December 15
Reduced excise duties on tobacco were gazetted to-night. The reductions give effect to a clause in the Customs Amendment Act which empowered alterations to be made by Order-hVCouncil, which would place New Zealand tobacco in the same relative position to the imported commodity as it occupied prior to the removal of the surtax on the latter.
The new duties are a s follows ; On tobacco, (cut) 3/4id per pound ; on tobacco fine cut, suitable for the manufacture of cigarettes, 9/2d per pound ; on other tobacco, 3/2J-d per pound; on. cigarettes, not exceeding in weight two and a half pounds the thousand, 23/4d pe r thousand; on cigarettes exceeding in weight two -and a half pounds the thousand, 9/4cl per pound.
Amended customs regulations dealing with the Empire content of tobacco and cigarettes are a!«o gazetted to-night.
