allegations by the soviet.

(British Offic’il Wireless.) RUGBY, December 13. Captain Eden, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, informed the House of Commons of the sequel to recent vigorous protests regarding allegations that have been published in the Russian newspaper, ; “Izvegtia.” Captain Eden said that the Soviet Ambassador had made an oral communication to the effect that, while the Soviet Government took responsibility only for the official communications in the “Izvestia,”- they desired to state in regard to this particular incident, that they did not entertain, the suspicions of the British Foreign Secretary and of the British Foreign Office which were expressed therein. On the contrary they disassociated, from such statements. The Soviet Ambassador had' later repeated this declaration, and had added that lie himself had communicated with the editor of the “Izvestia,” who had now replied that lie had been misled by one of his correspondents. He recognised the statements in question were inaccurate, and be wished to express regret for having published them. In these circumstances, the British Government regarded the matters as closed.
