The first- wool sale of the season was held at Christchurch tlys '.afternoon and evening. There was a full bench of buyers, including a strong representation from the local mills, which had a considerable effect in increasing the competition and raising the prices ror super wools. Twenty-five thousand bales were offered, and the passings totalled aboutten per cent., they being particularly heavy in the first two catalogues. The range of prices was as follow's :

Merino super: Medium 7id to 9d per lb; Merino 6d to 7d. Corriedale: Super to 103 d per lb; Medium 83d to inferior 6id to Bd. Fine Half bred: Extra super to 12jd; super 9fd to lid; medium 83d to ■9id; inferior 6|d to 73d. Medium Half bred: Super B|d to 103 d; medium 7i|d to Bjd; inferior s£d to 73d. Coarse halfbred: Super 7Jd to 83d; medium 53d to 63d; inferior 4d to sid.

Three-quarterbred: Super 6d to 7id; medium 4fd to s|[d; inferior 2Jd to 4Jd. Medium Crossbred: Super 4d to sfd; medium 3d to 3£dj inferior ljjd to 2sd. Pieces: Good 7d to d; inferior to average 3d to 6d. Bellies: Good 5d to 7d; inferior to average 2r to 4,jd. C’rutchings: Medium to good 3d to 4Hdj in erior l|d' to 2jd. * Locks: Best 2d to 2^d; inferior to medium Id to lfd.
