KENYA GOLD RUSH

VERDICT OF THE NEW FIELD

NAIRORI, December 10

The opening up'of a new large goldfield is expected -to follow the publi- ■ ation of 'the' report of -Sir Albert Kitson, the eminent geologist, who was specially brought out by the Government 'to report on the possibilities of - tire Ka^amegai-area. The.' effect : of j the report, which is distinctly opti-i nVistic, htis" lieeh sensational;' Pre-' viotis minor rushes are expected to develop on a big scale. Ih the course of a document of 20 pages Si'r Albert Kitson reviews- the hLtory of the fields from the time ;of their discovery at the end of last year. Considerable alluvial -operations were subsequently carried out with a certain amount of success in numerous streams in North Kavironda —an area of over 420 square miles. Prospecting for auriferous reefs then commenced and numerous claims were : pegged. During subsequent ; operations, continues the report, a great number of small reefs, veins, and threads of quartz- varying from 18in to -several' feet, were discovered. Discussing the- prospects of the, area, Sir Alber Kitson states that he is certain that, as a, result -of pre- • vious discoveries, intensive prospecting over a wide area will reveal many more rich workable reefs. They will require deeper sinking, however, than lias hitherto been carried out. Large areas, he points out, are still untested.

Sir Albert concludes by saying that he is strongly of the opinion that the prospect of the field quickly becoming a useful goldfield and' later developing "into an important field is distinctly encouraging.
