AMAZING ESCAPE

SEQUEL TO MOTOR ACCIDENT.

SYDNEY, December 4

Flung from his cycle in a collision with a, motor-cycle on Iron Cove Bridge to-day, Frank Mawer, 29, of Devonshire Street, city, had one foot caught in the bridge and was suspended 50 feet over the water until he was rescued.

Mawer was catapulted through the air by the force of the collision, and for an instant it appeared that he would go right over the edge of the bridge and crash into the -river. His right foot caught in the bridgework, and checked his fall, .the sudden ijnr badly lacerating his ankle.

He liung head downwards until several ’passers-by rushed to his aid. ’The rider of the motor-cycle, George Yates, of Renwick Stret, Drummoyne. received abrasions to the hands and shock.

The Central District Ambulance and Constable ,Simmonds (Rozelle) took Mawer to the Balmain Hospital, where he was admitted by Dr. Shaw, suffering from lacerations of the scalp, right ankle and left knee.
