County Chairman.—Mr T. W. Bruce was elected County Chairman ot the annual meeting of the Council. Mr S. G, Ferguson was als 0 nominated and the number of votes for each being the same, the names were placed in the hat and Mr Bruce’s was drawn. Stafford. —The picnic of the season will be held in the Stafford school grounds on Thursday, January 2, 1908. Chopping competitions and Other events for adults, and sports in abundance for children. Ba.d in attendance. Grand concert and ball at night. Aid Board.—The first meeting of the new Board wa held yesterday moaning. Present Messrs McGuigan, J. F; Byrne, Staines and Duff (county), T. W, Brace (Rose). House (Kumara), Robinson and McGregor (Hokitika). Mr McGuigan was appointed chairman. It was decided to confer with tha Totpra cha rman regarding additions to the Totara hospital. Masonic. —The annual installation if W. M. and invetiture of officers >f the Westland Kilwinning Lodge No 38 took place last evening. The ceremoy of the installation of Bro. C. J. Nightingale as W.M. was conducted in •an impi’essive manner by It. W. Bro J. H. Harkness, Grand Superintendent of Westland, assisted by Bro H. L. Michel/ P.D.G.M. The follow'ng officers were invested: —I.P.M. Bro. S. McMillan; S.W., Bro W; Bray ; J.W,, Bro. H. Linklater; treasurer, Bro A. A. Andrews; sec;, Bro W. E. Ward; S.D., Bro. G. H.
