DRIVERS’ AWARD

APPLICATION BEFORE COUNCIL (Pt Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, December 7.

An application for a drivers’ award on the New Zealand basis is proceeding to-day in the Conciliation Council. The assessors are drawn from various parts. There is considerable disparity between the demands and the employers’ offer. Mr Bishop, appearing for the employers, said that they were anxious for an agreement, but did wish to pay unduly for it.

LITTLE PROGRESS RESULTS.

WELLINGTON, December 7

Little progress was made in the Conciliation Council in hearing the Dominion drivers’ dispute before ;M? Newton (Conciliation Commissioner). The schedules of proposals and counter proposals of the workers and employ er.s were at variance to a considerable degree. The important question of the weekly hours of work was the first one considered, and it was held over for further consideration later on in the proceedings much time was spent discussing the general economic situation and kindred topics. Tn this the Commissioner gave the Council more oi less free rein, but he remarked, when the Council adjourned until to-mor-row. that he had heard most of it recently several times over.
