FREEZING WORKS
STRIKE REPORTED OFF.
(Per Press Association Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, December 8
A message has been received by the ! Wellington Freezing Companies from i the management of cne of the Gisborne district companies that the strike has been declared off in that area as from | last Tuesday and that about 30 slaugh- , termen have applied for their hooks. Only five can be absorbed at once.
Locally, a reporter was told there was no change in the freezing situation and the strike is still on and that the oempanies have been bolding off, hoping, for a speedy ending of the dispute and not being desirous of dispossessing!: the regular slaughtermen of their positions by engaging a large number of outside workers, for it felt that- a majority of the union members were anxious for getting back to work.
