Wellington, December 8. In the House of Representatives this morning, the report'of the Education Committee on the petition of Otag Education Board thut four train ng col leges b e retained, was presented. Th Committee expreseed th e opinion t'ha there should >b© greater co-operation on th e part of education organisations 0 relation to the training of teachers, s' as to avoid, as fur a s possible, th duplication of staffs and courses, and there should be closer co-operation between the Education Department anEducation Boards and University col leges. Directing attention to the re commendation of 1930 Parliamentary committee on education, that trainin' colleges and st,iff s : b e handed over tr the control of University authorities and that general lecturers so bander over be utilised to reduce th© size o: classes in University arts and science departments. The . Committee recommended the report to the Government for favourable consideration.
A number of members exm-essed appreciation of the Committee’s report and ureed the Government to reconsider the decision to .close the training colleges at Wellington and Dunedin.
