RAILWAY ROUTE PROPOSED

SYDNEY, December 5

The Federal Ministry hag a proposal under consideration for the building of a railway from Bourke, in N e w South Wales, through a portion of Queensland and the Northern Territory, to Port Darwin.

It is understood that a British and local syndicate are prepared to undertake the construction of the li ne > providing that the Government grants the syndicate leasehold and also freehold rights over enormous grazing lands in t*e Northern Territory and also 99 years’ lease of Bathurst or Melville Island. ! 1

It is estimated, that l the cost of the line would be fifteen millions sterling.
