TRIAL AFTER NINETEEN YEARS

LONDON, December 5. ■ The “Times’ ’’ Berlin correspondent state© that, nineteen ycar3 after the first German gas attack at Ypres, Jager, a German ex-soldier i© now on trial for treason at Leipzig for betraying the attack on the enemy.
Evidence is 'based on an article by General Ferry, the French commander vof the 'sector, published in 1930, in which it is alleged that Jager gave the position bf the gas batteries, and accused French generals of a failure to protect the troops, A representative of the lUdcUswohr Ministry is pressing for Jager's conviction, and insists that the French took measures to reduce the losses, also mitigating the effect of the __ attack.
Jage r denie s desertion and betrayal, and claims that h e strayed into the enemy’s trenches, and that the French, deduced the imminence of the attack from the wadding gauze he carried a© part of his equipment.
