ANOTHER WIN FOR PALMER

At the Stadium to-night, in a twelverounds bout, Ambrose palmer, 12.0, outpointed Ron Richards, 12.8, the 'Queensland aboriginal champion, who has scored twenty-one knockouts in 18 months. It was a sterling contest, Palmer being the most aggressive in clinches where he piled up points. Richards, however, greatly impressed, H e was stylish, while Palmer was fully extended. He also opened an old cut over Paln:er’ s eye.

A considerable section of the on " lookers would not have been surprised had be received the verdict.

Tire Hokitika Bofcing Club met, Jail evening in Keller’s l'opins when thebe were present Messrs J. Stafford (chairman), A. Lawn, J. Atkinson, J. Johnson, R. Lynn, D. Breeze, \V. Hay* battle, M. McGavin, R. Dowell, R. Bell, F Ballinger, E-. W. Heenan, F. McGregor, ard secretary., An apology was received for Mr O. Hahn. Turner (Nelson) advised having hurt hi.s shoulder and that h-e would be unable -to* meet Croft. It was decided to match either. .Parker, Lowe ) or Adams.

Preliminary bouts were decided as fol’l mvs : —Freitais v. ■ McPh-ee (Wallsend), six two minute rounds ; Atkinson v. Cowe (Runanga.) : four two minute rounds; Gillingham (Hariha-ri) and another, four -two- minute rounds. The Rev.’G. A. Naylor advised that it would not be possible to -arrange the fencing land sab-re exhibition as suggested but would be pleased to do .so af a later tourney. The officials for the tournament were appointed as follows: —Referees', Messrs A. Behan and F. O’Neil; ring stewards, Messrs J. Atkinson -and E. Best; official seconds, Messrs R-. Collett, F. Rallinger, R. Furness, and W. Haybittle; timekeepers, Messrs M. Houston and M. McOavin; call and glove stewards, Mes-rs J. Atkinson, D. Dowell -and E. Heenlan; gate stewards, 0. Hahn and R. Lynn; usher, Mr J. Johnson ; weight steward, /Mr A. Yarrall: rounds steward, Mr R. Bell. Mr R- Wliiley wals elected a member. Donations of med’als from Messrs It. Lynn (Hokitika) 'and J. McCallum (Kokatahi) were received with thanks. The secretary was instructed ter make application to have trains delayed.
