An Auckland wire states that the American fiction .writer, Mr Zane Grey arrived at Auckland by the Monterey yesterday, on his fourth visit to New Zealand. He will spend three months in the Dominion, going immediately to Mercury Bay, where he purposes to fish, and film the mako shark. He has brought two cinematographers with him. After a visit to Tongariro and a month in the South Island, lie will leave in April for Tahiti, to join his yacht for a long cruise in the Pacific.

An Auckland Press Assn, telegram states: —The Bev. Father Holbrook of Auckland, u;ho returned yesterday after attending the Eucharistic Congress at Dublin, said that as far as the Free State’s jurisdiction extended, it had far greater liberty than was ever contemplated under Home Rule, but the unnatural partition of the north from the south was the greatest blundei and injustice. Generally, Ireland appealed the least affected by the depression, of the 'countries he had visited, and he believed that when the present dispute with England was settled, they would enjoy a prosperous future.

Large gaping cracks, together with other smaller, but still significant ones, in a portion of the school building, formed the subject of consideration by the Hokitika School Committee at its meeting last evening. The chairman said that the porchway, on the front, western corner of the building, was in a terrible condition, and was in danger of collapsing if subjected to a sudden shake. “I think we would be doing our duty if we were to draw the attention of the Board to the condition of this part of the building,’ he said, and it was decided that this be done.

There were three cases of scarlet fever in Canterbury, two cases of tuberculosis, one of septic abortion and one of eclampsia. Three eases of diphtheria Wre reported on the West Coast. There was one death from tuberculosis in Canterbuiy.
