TIMBER WORKERS’ ELECTION.

(To the Editor.)

Sir.-Would you kindly allow mo ispace in your most valuable paper to asJt a I'ew quo .u'jus re balloting for position as .secretary and treasurer for the Timber Worker.;’ Union. I have not ibeen a timber worker for long, (but now I come utie'.r tlie Union rules and (regulations I think I am within my rights to find out first hand something 'about the methods of the Union. A voting paper was handed to me !by the delegate* of our mill. I knew an election was to take place sometime, but did not know when as no 'date was advertised. T asked for information as to procedure and got a rvery unsatisfactory reply. All I had to do was to strike out the two names I did not want to vote for and hand the paper back to tho delegate. I asked when voting papers would be opened and were scrutineers allowed to be present, anti his reply was that there pvould be no smitirn’Oi-i! !-■ • i. - She (tho delegate) thy only person

to open and check the vote and then send them on to Mr Fitzgerald who was Returning Officer. 1 then asked if the result* of voting at our mill would be posted up in the mill and was informed “No.” Now, Sir, if the secretary or preside,'nt would answer the following questions through the p r esg the members of the Union would be obliged : (1) Is it the right procedure that there be fio scrutineers at three ballots when votes are being opened arid checked before leaving the mills. (2) What, is tho fixed date for closing the election. (3) Is it against the rules to put results up at the mi Ms. (4) Is it right that the secretary should appoint hi* own delegates. Thankin'? th e secretary and president ill anticipation of an early reply, Yours with workers interest, at heart. FINANCIAL MEMBER--2.12.32.
