TRAIN SMASH
FOUR FATALITIES IN COLLISION WITH A LORRY. (Australian Press i lssociaHon.) SYDNEY, December- 2. Four people were killed and two others were injured seriously to-day in one of the worst level cro sing accidents in th© history of the State. A locomotive drawing a van collided with a milk lorry at Culwailla, ' near Bowral on the southern branch line. There wer e six persons aboard the lorry, which wa s being driven to Bowral for Christmas shopping. They were fhurled in aIE directions.
Those killed ;—Harry Mackie, aged 60; Harry Wilson, aged 70; Elva ■Mortimer, aged 18 ; Gladys Tolhurst, aged 15; all of whom 'were residents of Burravang. The injured are:—Walter Hollins, aged 29, unmarried; ana'Joyce Gilbert, who has "a fractured skull and serious internal injuries. Hollins, who w,a s the driver of the lorry, sustained a broken collarbone. It is stated h© did not see the locomotive. His vision was obscured by a sideling. The train crew were so overcome by the disaster that they wer e unable to take the locomotive away, and a new crew had to b© obtained.
