M.C.C, TOURISTS GO HUNTING
MELBOURNE, November 21. Pataudi and Ames, members of the M.C.C. team went on a shooting expedition yesterday to a' point in south j Cippslancl 'o\er ICO miles from Melj bourne. j At least, that was the intention, but the "bag” consisted of one parrot, j which both claimed to have shot as they blazed together, : and a native hear, which was taken alive and will he handed over to the Melbourne Zoo today. But ttynt is not the story. Pataudi became separated from the main party, and was hopelessly lost for hfilf an hour. Realising his plight, "Pat” says he-shinned up a tall tree, calling out with all the power of his lungs. There was no answer, and it w n s while straining his ears for a sound that the branch of the tree to which he was clinging, broke. j Pataudi fell into the mud with his J fully loaded double-barrelled gun ©eros:*.his chest and the seat of the grey flannels he was wearing was amp’e evidence of his fall. That did not worry him for he had visions of wandering, until he became exhausted. However, after discharging both barrels, he heard a faint call, .and a few minutes later was with his friends. The party was organised to ,shoot
kangaroos. Leaving Melbourne at 5 a.nj. tbev reached their destination, in a state of keen anticipation, but only one, ’ron was sighted all day: that was when Ames was almost asleep.. He heard the tbud-thnd of the ’roo. lpit it would he hard to say who was the more s°a l- ed o r the two. Certainly, Ames forgot*, to shoot.
