CORROSIVE ACID
THROWN AT DRIVER,
LONDON, October 6. Corrosive acid was thrown by bandits in the face of Captain Chandler, agent to Mr Herbert Wragg, Conserva. tive 31. P., for Belper, late at night when he was driving through the gates of liis home at Repton, Derbyshire. His assailants jumped out of a hedge and threw the acid through the open window of the car. Captain Chandler put his hand to his face and as he did so his pockets were rifled. After the attack he staggered to the front door of his home and a doctor was sent for.
‘‘The burning sensation as the acid came through the window was terrible,” Captain . Chandler stated. “1 don’t think there was any political motive in the attack. My hands were not injured*; and I am hoping that my eyes are all right, but they smart • “The attack was so sudden that Captain Chandler did not even see his assailants,” said 3lr Herbert Wragg. “The doctors found that his face had been badly burned and his eyebrows burned. Fortunately, none of the acid seems to have gone in his eyes.” Some of the liquid found on the car was sent) to the county analyst at Derby, who pronounced it to be concentrated sulphuric acid. I
